The Blue Ridge Parkway is undoubtedly the go-to place for observing and photographing the fall colors in Western North Carolina, but there is a lot of traffic this time of year.

Leaving the Parkway at NC State Road 215 near Beech Gap and going north towards Waynesville, you won’t miss any of the fall color. This road follows the West Fork of the Pigeon River so if you open your window, you’ll hear the water rushing over the rocky river bed and you’ll see several small waterfalls where the river’s tributaries flow down the mountainside.
